Police Officer (recruit/lateral)

POLICE OFFICER

The City of Falmouth, KY Police Department is now accepting applications for the full-time, sworn position of Police Officer. The Department will consider both lateral and recruit applicants. All candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for certification established by KRS 15.382.

Minimum Qualifications for Certification (KRS 15.382)

• Be a citizen of the United States
• Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age (may be twenty (20) at application but must be twenty-one (21) before graduating the DOCJT Basic Training Academy)
• Be a high school graduate or possess a High School Equivalency Diploma (GED)
• Possess a valid Kentucky driver's license
• Be fingerprinted for a state and federal criminal background check
• Not have been convicted of any felony, or of the disqualifying misdemeanor and sexual offenses enumerated in KRS 15.382
• Not be prohibited by federal or state law from possessing a firearm
• Not have received a dishonorable, bad conduct, or general discharge under other than honorable conditions from any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces
• Have received and read the Kentucky Law Enforcement Officers Code of Ethics
• Pass a medical examination, drug screening, and psychological screening as required by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field preferred but not required
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered

Special Requirements

• Peace Officer Professional Standards (POPS) certification issued by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council, or eligibility and willingness to attend and complete the DOCJT Basic Training Academy
• Successful completion of the Police Academy
• Newly hired officers may be required to execute a reimbursement/continued-employment agreement pursuant to KRS 70.290
