The City of Alexandria is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Chief of Police. The Alexandria Police Department employees 17 full-time and part-time police officers, serving a community of approximately 10,000 residents. Our mission is to provide high quality and effective police service in partnership with our community, while maintaining commitment to our core values, human life, integrity, cooperation, and excellence.

This command staff level position is responsible for directly overseeing daily patrol operations, investigations, and administrative functions within the police department. The assistant chief works directly with the Chief of Police in planning and implementing departmental programs, policies, and procedures. Additional duties include, but are not limited to, all primary functions of a sworn Kentucky law enforcement officer, carrying out departmental disciplinary procedures, working in cooperation with city officials and community stakeholders, mentoring officers and supervisors, and serving in place of the Chief of Police in their absence.  

Applicants must currently be certified or eligible for certification as a police officer in the state of Kentucky. A post-graduate degree in police administration or similar field is preferred, as well as completion of the Criminal Justice Executive Development Program, FBI National Academy, or Southern Police Institute. Salary and benefits are based upon experience and qualifications in accordance with the City of Alexandria Personnel Policy.
